Panic Button DVD, Blu-ray and iTunes package

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

blog_dec11_panicbuttonWe’ve been working on the DVD, Blu-ray and iTunes package for independent British horror film Panic Button.

The film explores the darker side of social networking.  It’s set on a luxury private plane where the four passengers are under the impression that they have won an all expenses paid trip to New York, courtesy of Facebook equivalent all2gethr.com.

Forced to give up their mobile phones for the duration of the flight the passengers are greeted upon take-off, by the face of a talking alligator on the television monitors.  The sinister alligator introduces them to the in-flight entertainment: a game based on their internet habits. Eager to play with the mention of expensive prizes, the contestants agree to partake in the game, which is soon to become an unrelenting nightmare at 30,000 feet.

The film, dubbed ‘SAW on a Lear jet’ is smart and fresh with a tight script and left us a little bit nervous of using Facebook.

You can buy the Blu-ray here and DVD from here, the film will be available on iTunes soon!

Billy Connolly Takes the Ultimate Road Trip

Friday, October 7th, 2011

billyconnolly_blog_Oct11On behalf of Universal Pictures UK the authoring department at re:fine has been kept in fine Scottish humour creating the Blu-ray and DVD of Billy Connolly’s latest road trip.

Billy Connolly’s Route 66 sees Billy turn Easy Rider as he follows a lifelong dream and makes the iconic 2488 mile journey from Chicago to Santa Monica.

Route 66 is the embodiment of the American Dream.   Millions have travelled its epic trail from the skyscrapers of Chicago and St Louis, through the Wild West badlands of Oklahoma and Texas, the Grand Canyon and deserts of New Mexico and Arizona, to the beaches of the Pacific and the excesses of LA.

Set to a soundtrack of some of the best American music of the 20th century, Billy also brings his banjo along for the ride.  With his unrivalled ability to tell a great story, he brings to life both the big and small moments of American history: the world changing events and the comic asides.

On his way, Billy meets disciples of Route 66, from seasoned “roadies” to first-timers living the dream.  And he isn’t just passing through: anything could happen on the way… from swapping his Boom trike for a horse saddle in Texas, to soaring above LA in a helicopter with the city’s traffic patrol.

Includes over 40mins of exclusive, never been seen before, DVD extras – featuring Billy’s hilarious video diary from his road trip.

We loved the epic landscapes in HD and the 40min extra video diary. To watch Billy on his travels you can order the DVD or the Blu-ray from Amazon here

All platforms ready for Fire in Babylon

Monday, July 4th, 2011

blog_mar11_fireinbabylonOn behalf of Revolver Entertainment we authored the Blu-ray Disc & DVD and digitally delivered Fire in Babylon to iTunes, BT Vision, PlayStation Network and Lovefilm.  All of these deliverables were created from a single HD master.

Fire in Babylon is the breathtaking story of how the West Indies triumphed over its colonial masters through the achievements of one of the most gifted teams in sporting history.

In a turbulent era of apartheid in South Africa; race riots in England and civil unrest in the Caribbean, the West Indian cricketers, led by the enigmatic Viv Richards, struck a defiant blow at the forces of white prejudice worldwide. Their undisputed skill, combined with a fearless spirit, allowed them to dominate the genteel game at the highest level, replaying it on their own terms.

This is their story, told in their own words – and here is where you can buy it or download it

Champions League Final 2011 – DVD authoring at re:fine

Monday, July 4th, 2011

blog_mar11_championsleagueFC Barcelona, gave Manchester United a lesson in football at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 25th May 2011, as they turned on the Barça style to claim their fourth European Cup victory.

The team repeated the success of 1992, when the Club took its first European Cup and with goals from the great trio of Messi, Villa and Pedro, they brushed aside the challenge of a competitive Manchester United to win 3-1.

By the end of the weekend our client IMG had produced and edited the match in Spanish & English. The masters were then rushed to re:fine.

With the graphics and authoring process already underway, the match video was compressed and QC’ed in record time.

Finally, with sign off happening at the highest level the disc made it into the shops within 10 working days.

For the Barcelona fans out there you can buy the DVD here

How do you produce the greenest possible retail DVD?

Monday, July 4th, 2011

blog_mar11_environmentfilmsThat was the challenge set by one of our clients, Environment Films.

Environment Films is an independent production company, based in London, specialising in sophisticated films, documentaries and commercials for organisations whose work and interests are connected to the natural world.

So how did we go about it? Well the DVD itself is a tough challenge – and as yet still unsolved, as you cannot meddle with the optical properties of polycarbonate. The next best thing is to recommend that recycling of CDs and DVDs is best done by specialists, like our friends at Polymer Reprocessors.

The next part of the retail product is the packaging, so we looked at the most environmentally friendly packaging possible and we came up with the following blend of materials:

Box – Amaray DVD BioBox 100 % biodegradable in landfill

Printed parts – The DVD inlay was made from 80% recycled board the other 20% FSC accredited.

Ink – 100 % vegetable derived based ink

Wrapping – None – we used just a recyclable security sticker, it’s more environmentally friendly than shrinkwrap, secure and also 100% biodegradable too.

From now on Environment Films are using this method of assembly to ensure that their retail products are the kindest DVDs in production.

Archive DVD pays tribute to re:fine’s versatility

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

blog_may11_londonLondon Rediscovered is an eclectic mix of archive footage, mainly from public sources, featuring London in the 50s. The London Screen Study Collection at Birkbeck College wanted a DVD that showcased the footage to best effect, so they came to re:fine.

A myriad of formats have been sourced and, whilst not offering a history of the 50s, the films provide viewers with a taste of life in a bygone era. Ian Christie, who compiled the material, pays tribute to re:fine’s versatility in coping with such diverse material: ‘ we couldn’t have done it without their understanding and flexibility’.

The DVD will go to local history archives, societies, and teachers.  It  is part of a drive by Film London and the London Screen Archives network to make Londoners more aware of their audiovisual heritage. An accompanying booklet gives full details of sources of the films. For further information about the London Screen Study Collection, contact Professor Ian Christie at i.christie(at)bbk.ac.uk.

CD/DVD set kicks off the iPhone app promotional campaign for Budweiser

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

blog_april11_budweiserThis month re:fine was commissioned by ADM Promotions to produce a promotional pack for Budweiser. It consisted of a DVD and CD packed into a custom made double cardwallet with modified thumbnail cuts that create an outline of a pint glass. Re:fine designed and created the packaging and branded interfaces for both the CD and DVD, with the brief to ensure ease of use while reinforcing the brand.

The promotion will be run in conjunction with retail outlets throughout Ireland, who will redeem e-vouchers that can be accessed through the Budweiser Ice Cold app when certain temperatures are reached. This innovative strategy is being used to cross-promote the brand across multiple medium, using iPhone apps to stimulate demand and sales.

Budweiser and other members of the extended family account for 25% of beers served in North America. An aggressive marketing campaign and TV commercials between 1995 and 2002 boosted the brand’s profile. The brand has placed an even greater emphasis on its American heritage since early 2009, describing itself as “The Great American Lager.”
